About New Student Orientation
New Student Orientation supports the successful transition of incoming students to
the University of Northern Colorado through a collective effort of the campus community.

Student Objectives and Learning Outcomes
Program Objectives:
- New Student Orientation will provide programming and resources to support students’ successful transition to UNC
- New Student Orientation will provide students opportunities to connect with the UNC community
- New Student Orientation will create an environment for students begin to form friendships with other new students
Learning Outcomes:
- Students will identify resources available at UNC to address common challenges faced by new students during the transition to college.
- Students will recognize their roles and responsibilities in and outside the classroom to become a successful member of the UNC community.
- Students will report ways to get involved on campus that are meaningful to them.

Family & Support People Objectives and Learning Outcomes
Program Objectives:
- New Student Orientation will make families & support people more knowledgeable about what UNC provides to support their students’ successful transition to college.
- New Student Orientation will provide families & support people opportunities to connect with the UNC community.
- New Student Orientation will provide information to help families & support people adapt to their new role as a family and/or support person of a UNC college student.
Learning Outcomes:
- Families & support people will identify resources available at UNC to address common challenges faced by new students during the transition to college.
- Families & support people will recognize their student’s roles and responsibilities in and outside the classroom as a member of the UNC community.
- Families & support people will understand how FERPA relates to them.
- Families & support people will identify the basic academic requirements for their student to successfully complete their degree.

Community of Bears Learning Outcomes

By participating in Community of Bears, students will begin to:
- Explore self-awareness
- Consider how their decisions impact themselves and others
- Discover and create a sense of belonging
